Fresh ginger rhizomes are dry and fibrous. When left at room temperature, they don’t have a very long shelf life. Storing them in the refrigerator or freezer sustains them for a longer period of time. The outer skin of fresh ginger should be peeled off before storing the ginger in the freezer or using it in a recipe. Dried ginger can also be used in baked goods and as a flavor enhancer in stewed fruit. Fresh ginger can be used in any recipe you want to add some pungent spiciness to.
