The Basics

Regardless of what preparation method you use to make homemade BBQ corn nuts or any other flavor of corn nuts, there are two necessary basic steps in the process. First of all, the corn you use must be giant white corn. Secondly, you need to put the corn in a bowl, cover it with water, and soak it for 8 hours or overnight before moving forward with any cooking method.

Fried Corn Nuggets

Salty, intensely crunchy fried corn nuts are a popular snack food. Deep fried corn nuggets or air fryer corn nuggets are a quick and easy snack to prepare at home. Once the soaking period is over, the preparation and cooking time is less than an hour. Barbecue corn nuts are a favorite of kids and adults, but your seasoning options can extend far beyond barbecue flavor.

Roasting Corn Nuggets

To prepare roasted corn nuggets you’ll need 14 ounces of giant white corn, 1/4 cup of coconut or vegetable oil, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of salt.

After soaking, rinsing and draining the corn, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Toss the corn, oil, sugar, and salt together in a bowl. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a non-stick baking sheet. Put the corn on the baking sheet and place in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Shake the baking sheet every ten minutes. As soon as the corn is brown remove the pan. They can burn quickly. While the corn nuts are hot, sprinkle on the seasoning of your choice. BBQ corn nuts are popular but you can also season the corn nuts with ranch dressing powder, taco seasoning, garlic powder, or your favorite herb mixture.
